Martha has served as an educator for over 36 years. She is the first female and first Hispanic superintendent of the Tomball Independent School District, which is one of the highest academically achieving school districts in Texas. Martha is the 2023 Texas Superintendent of the Year, the 2024 AASA National Superintendent of the Year Finalist, and one of the 2024 District Administration Top 100 Influencers in Education.

Dr. Martha Salazar-Zamora has set the bar high at Tomball ISD with innovative programs and initiatives that are student-centered. Since 2017, she has led the implementation of Tomball Star Academy, the early college high school, two-way Dual Language Academy, the P-TECH program focused on healthcare, a Pre-K center for young learners, the state-of-the-art Tomball ISD Stadium and Event Center, along with the opening of several campuses and CTE programs.
Martha has a wealth of experience in education. Before joining Tomball, she served in Round Rock ISD as the deputy superintendent of curriculum and administration; in Houston ISD as the assistant superintendent of school support services; and in Spring ISD as an area superintendent, an assistant superintendent, and the executive director of student and school services. In addition, Martha was the superintendent of schools for the Kingsville ISD.
Martha earned a doctorate in education at Texas A&M University; a master’s in educational administration and a master’s in special education at Texas A&M University-Kingsville; and a bachelor of science at Texas A&I University.
