Jarlyn Veras is the oldest of three children and the only girl, born to Dominican immigrants. She attended Clifton schools in New Jersey and lived in the Dominican Republic for three years (1997-2000). Living in the Dominican Republic helped Jarlyn learn about her culture and strengthen her Spanish.
Jarlyn always desired to have a mom who was involved at her school. This was difficult for her mom because of the language barrier. Therefore, as a school leader, Jarlyn is passionate about implementing practices that are thoughtful of multilingual families. She began her career as a preschool teacher. After ten years, Jarlyn pursued leadership roles and was a director of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student services; principal; and assistant principal. She has a bachelor’s degree in early and middle childhood education and master’s degrees in educational leadership and inclusive education with an autism specialization. Jarlyn is a woman of faith, a wife, and the mother of two beautiful children—Adrian and Sophia.
